Know Thy Cycle, Know Thy Self
An echo of the womb's song. Sing her name and be reminded of the true breath of life.
A vital pillar of wisdom for women’s bodies and souls is the intelligence of the womb cycle. Here lies the memories of creation. Passed down through countless generations of women to reach us. Within its cupped hands is offered the waters of infinite wisdom. Knowing your womb cycle as a woman is such an important layer of knowing how your body and spirit move within this physical realm. It is an echo of a creation song. One that births life, and feeds death. One that nurtures wholeness. When we are in tune with this cycle that is us ~ as in, when we tune into the energy that lives in us through each shift and flow of our cycle, and honour its needs ~ we enter into the chambers of holy prayer. We embrace harmony within a world of chaos. We reclaim knowledge of body autonomy and sovereign choices.
Before I grew this awareness around my cycle, I had no idea what was moving within me. Crazy isn't it, how we are taught virtually nothing about it in school, yet our cycles influence countless different pieces of our lives. From our fertility windows ~ the knowledge of which serves as a natural and ancient form of birth control ~ to the overall well-being of our body and soul. All the needs that arose through the weavings of my womb went unnoticed, unheard. I would one day simply get my bleed and know I wasn't pregnant. A welcomed surprise. Everything else, every complex note in this magnificent symphony flew right over my head. I didn't realize how my cycle was impacting my energy every day. I would feel frustrated sometimes when my body was telling me to slow down. Feeling a need to keep up with a fast-paced world. Yet feeling invalidated in my body's true needs, while at the same time not understanding them. I couldn't fathom why my emotions would take such deep plunges into the dark waters of my soul. It felt irrational, silly, and this term "PMS" only served to reject a true lived experience that was moving through my heart. It reduced it down to a handful of symptoms and not a living consciousness. Not a beautiful and intricate orchestra of the womb. That which it rightly is.
Awakening into the rhythmic pulse of my womb nurtured a deeper context of my body and heart. A fuller grasp of the grand beat that moves through me, and moves me in each moment. It reminded me of the ways I am a wild, ancient being that beats to the same drum as all of creation. When you see the cycle, you see it everywhere, in everything. It comes alive with stories to tell, and wisdom to share. Of the ways we may be in harmony with life. And a realization dawned on me, that the innate pace of a woman's body, rooted in her truth, does not fit into the motion of modern society. That external world was actually totally counterintuitive to the ways we are meant to flow. Yet I was the one who felt "wrong" for not fitting into it. When it is the one that moves against the pulse of harmonious life. An artificial and soulless machine that doesn't support the primal body and heart. So this remembrance for me was a deeep coming home. To myself. My truth. My connection to life. It weaves many, many layers.
“This flowing cycle is not just our own, it is the O n e S o n g, the Uni-Verse. From which all is born and all goes back to. Its echo is seen in all things.”
The womb cycle is not an inanimate process that hinders us, looking at it this way only serves to keep you away from the true power and pure loving energy of all that you are. This cycle is the source and wellspring of a woman’s life energy. It is through this centre that we move in the world. When it is harnessed, when there is an awareness and synchronicity with its rhythm, energy is locked into resonance with the earth, the moon and the stars. This flowing cycle is not just our own, it is the O n e S o n g, the Uni-Verse. From which all is born and all goes back to. Its echo is seen in all things. So when we resonate with its living embodiment within the womb, we resonate with it all. It is the rhythm of creation. And it is a blessed thing to hold within us a piece of this greater rhythmic breath of life. Cyclical consciousness is this embodied experience that is in resonance with your womb, and through its cord, in resonance with all of life.
The womb is a portal of s o u r c e.
It asks for a deeper understanding of what weaves together all that we are. Not only in its physical expression, but energetically as well. Each phase of the womb cycle, the menstruation, follicular, ovulation and luteal, hold unique energy codes that feel different in the body. An example of this is in the quintessential experience of high, sexy, voluptuous energy during ovulation and the quiet, still, timid energy of the bleed. Each phase resonates with a season, an element. Each asks for something different to be in harmony with its true expression.
When we bypass these innate needs of the body and soul, we create distrust. We weave chaos.
The body and soul become unable to fully move through the processes that are needed. The more this happens, the more it translates into mental, emotional and physical symptoms of a drained spirit.
As water is meant to flow, so are we. The body is designed in its divine wisdom to move t h r o u g h. When we stay in one cycle or another, all that is meant to flow gets stuck. The way to unravel these patterns is a true sinking deeper, deep, and deeper still into the rich waters of the womb. The wellspring of the soul. Here we find the guidance we spent so many years looking for outside of ourselves. The womb is a guardian. Through her light, we are led out of the dark. This looks like slowing down long enough to listen. What does your womb's expression feel like in each phase? Each moment? Are those needs being met? Are they seen, sat with, and befriended?
The wisdom of the womb offers us a timekeeper, of energy that fills us to complete actions and energy that stills us enough to listen again. On and on the spiral goes. Forever turning. It is up to us whether we choose to allow her currents to wash over us like the divine, holy guidance that it is. Or whether we choose to fight the current upstream to a place we think we should be, forever missing the true journey. Whichever way, the current always finds a way to take you in the end. Whether it’s with ease or resistance. So may it be with love. Praise the holy womb, for she is a living memory of the Song of Creation.
