Realm of the Spiral
Tapping into the energetic codes of the spiral. Ever-unfolding. The breather of life. The turner of the wheel. The oldest form and wisest intelligence.
The spiral is the most ancient and universal scripture/symbol that exists for us to witness even still today. One of the oldest geometric shapes found in life. It repeats itself again and again, on shells, in plant formations, in whirlpools, in the spiralling of time.
The symbol that is drawn as the spiral remains a legacy that comes to us from our ancient ancestors. Those who saw the codes of it embedded onto all things and praised its significance, drew it upon so many sacred places all over the world. It is a wisdom that was tapped into, but what does it speak to?
It is significant that this spiral is found in so many different places in life. From the swirling shape of bacteria to the formation of galaxies. From the double helix of our DNA to the whirling of stars. It is encoded onto all things, as a way of development. The way life knows how to form. This to me feels then like a symbol that is holding the codes of creation itself. I feel as though our distant ancestors were deeply in tune and in awareness with certain elements of creation that for many people today have been lost. This awareness guided them into mysteries of life that are understood only when you move beyond the logical mind. When you see this formation again and again everywhere, in everything, it starts to feel noteworthy. It opens up, and fills with meaning. It begins to feel as though it is an important, foundational way of creation expressing itself. Through the way of the spiral. And so, it became perhaps a way to praise these elements of creation that give breath onto all things, infuse spirit into all form.
All of our ancestors, in every part of the world, felt this as a significant enough symbol to draw, on stones, on the walls of cliffs, on temples and ancient scrolls, most noticeably in particularly sacred spaces. It is as though it became a devotional symbol, infused with life and meaning. Holding a code for us to touch upon here, through time and space. Generations later, it remains. And it delivers to us a message. A reminder from these ancient beings, of something that is the bedrock of life itself.
Now, you can see this literally, as a pattern of growth that is mimicked in all things from the formation of a shell to the arrangement of a galaxy. The practical way that life repeats itself through fundamental patterns in increasingly intricate ways. Yet also symbolically, as the holder of time and space. The weaver of life. The giver of breath. The spiralling cycle of life/death/rebirth. It IS creation. Suddenly, the spiral opens up as a way to praise life. To give gratitude for the force that weaves through all things.
From this foundation, the spiral expanded to mean different, more complex things to different people. It came alive with meaning, with story. To some, it is the ever-unfolding rhythm, the turning of the seasons, the rising of the sun, the growth and death of plants. The dance that we all are a part of. Perhaps then it becomes a symbol of growth. The unwavering path towards complexity, towards change. And in this way also, transformation. The one essential truth that is evolution. The way that it moves out and in and up and down. Never the same thing twice. Forever unfolding into something different. It is all things held in the one. The blueprint. To others still, it embodies the cycle of life/death/rebirth. Prevalent in all things. And the spiral then comes to represent a sacred symbol of those processes that we move through, and are an inseparable part of.
I notice this being a rather present symbol for women in particular. Perhaps because women were known to very tangibly move through these cycles of life/death/rebirth through their womb cycle. From the cyclical turning of ovulation and menstruation that is unique to the female body, to their divine role as gatekeeper of spirit and form, the mystical experience of becoming a mother. And the initiation into menopause/cronehood. Women praised this symbol all over the world as an embodiment of this spiralling cycle that they move through, that guides them and infuses into them the power of the life-giver/death-dealer. Embodied by the goddess herself. Eventually the goddess and the spiral became inseparable imagery. They were two expressions of the same force. The womb through which all life is born.
This element of the cycle is only a fraction of all that it holds. The whole, vast, ever-changing cycle really moves through all things. Just as the moon, the plants, the seasons, the living stories of creation, are also held within the spiral.
The spiral is elusive. It is an initiation into the mysteries. The scriptures of life itself. Perhaps this is why it means something, whether aware of it or not, to every being on this planet. On a soul level, it stirs in us the essence from which we come. How life first formed itself, and still continues to in ever more enchanting ways. It is our roots, our first breath, our lifeblood.
Connecting with this symbol is connecting one with source. The intelligence of all things. We are encoded with it just as all else is. The more you see it, the more it works in you, re-members you with its wisdom. The more you hold it in your heart, the more it unravels to you its true depth. Spiral consciousness is tapping into this realm of awareness. Of connection. Of devotion to this one innate mother that breathes existence into all things. Her stories echo in everything. It is an ancient remembrance that all is connected within a web of a spiralling universe. That all comes from this and all goes back to it, and in the meantime is held within it’s experiential embrace.

A living altar of creation
I love that you have spoken into the Spiral as a Consciousness. That evokes a clarity IN me that confirms the spiral as my truest "timeline". Knowing with Spiral Consciousness opens the layer of cycles to be included in all relations, in all experience, in all understanding. If we began to truly embrace the spiral as a foundational aspect of our perception, we could carry more compassions for each phase of growth - knowing that we will cycle THROUGH this moment and eventually revisit this touch point from various angles of perception. It may help us to release our grip on replication and mimic as the ideal for security and rather lean INTO the mystery as momentum for our stability.
“Lean into the mystery” yess! So glad that you resonated with this. So much of how I feel the spiral embodied is in these innate ways we are cyclical beings. Always moving into something new. Yet at the same time, within it’s unfolding a pattern may be glimpse. Stories are told in these spaces that guide us forward.
